Someone wears a costume that represents a vulnerable, delicate, weak, and fragile body. They walk with effort and struggle, yet with courage. This person stops and hides when others are nearby, but when no one is around, they sing and continue walking with confidence. The costume, made of aluminum foil and mirror paper, reflects the people, buildings, and nature in the surroundings.
This artwork illustrates the challenges of social integration that arise due to racial and cultural differences, as well as the fears of prejudice and the judgmental gaze that migrants often experience. Furthermore, it expresses the desire to become invisible and to hide while simultaneously conveying the determination to face challenges and not give up.
I wear this large protective suit, which completely covers my body, concealing my "different appearance" entirely. As the foil reflects nature, buildings, and other people, my body merges with the surrounding environment. In that moment, I am no longer different—I blend into the world around me.
